Procedure When possible, Mr. Ennis prefers meeting with the client prior to the reference-photography session to discuss setting, mood, pose, and dress. This is sometimes possible the evening before the sitting. The artist will photograph the subject with a digital camera and download the images onto a laptop computer for review. Together with the client, Mr. Ennis will select an image that will serve as reference for the final portrait. After returning to his studio, Mr. Ennis creates a small digital color study indicating the intended composition and final dimensions, and shares this with the client for approval. This allows for the client to preview what the portrait will look like and creates an opportunity for the client to offer final comments before the painting begins. The artist will then complete the portrait . While most portrait are done from photographs, he encourages live sittings when possible. |
